Location: 19 Kent Street, Rockingham
Project Status: Completed in 2008
This multiple-user flexible centre is designed to cater for a large variety of users ranging from community groups to individual functions and commercial needs. The building includes:
- 400 person function hall with timber floors suitable for indoor sports;
- a selection of meeting room facilities;
- business incubator office space;
- arts and crafts centre;
- exhibition space;
- cafe (indoor/outdoor);
- tourism centre; and
- a commercial tenancy.
The building’s mechanical and electrical systems are designed to be in use on a room by room basis to minimise energy usage during downtime. The building as a whole is designed with extensive sun-shading integrating ESD principles to further minimise energy usage.
The building has been planned with three interconnected pods based around a central access zone and exhibition space providing exposure to all major facilities. The success of this building in being flexible for such a wide variety of users is testimony to its outstanding design and “value for money” outcome.
