Project:  Pearsall Hocking Community Centre
Client: City of Wanneroo
Location: Lot No 271, 125 Willespie Drive, Pearsall
Project Status: Completed 2017

Key Aspects

The Pearsall Hocking Community Centre is located in the heart of the community between the school and shopping centre and incorporates the following facilities:

  • Main Hall for up to 120 people;
  • a multipurpose activity room for up to 60 users;
  • a central kitchen for servicing and demonstration purposes;
  • meeting room;
  • user group shared office;
  • tenantable offices;
  • end of trip facilities; and
  • general amenities.

Externally there are dedicated outdoor function areas adjacent to the hall, a children’s secure play area off the multipurpose room and the main entrance landscaped forecourt integrated as a skateable space. The car parking was located to the side of the building emphasising the landscaped external space and public artist designed bicycle parking.  Combined with end of trip facilities this will encourage alternate access options to the site rather than always by car.

Architecturally the building is contemporary on form reflecting the new vibrant community but it is also designed as a robust low maintenance facility and has also incorporated many passive solar and sustainable design features.  The incorporation of passive cross ventilation, daylight harvesting through skylights and orientation, extensive sun shading and thermal glazing will assist the building performance in lower running costs into the future.

The building design was deconstructed to minimise wastage of materials through the construction process including the use of polished concrete floors allowing for the deletion of internal tiling and meeting all the maintenance, aesthetic and operational needs.
