Project: Augusta Margaret River Shire Council Administration Building and Civic Centre

Key Aspects

The building design is contemporary and representative of the community’s uniqueness representing the ethos and locational context of the south west coastal region.  The building incorporates three primary functions; civic administration, council offices, community meeting/function spaces.

Directly adjoining the cultural buildings, the second stage of works incorporates performance, art gallery, community activity spaces, and conference venue.  The facilities are designed around a central landscaped amphitheatre and performance space with integrated native landscape and winter creek creating a holistic community centre and precinct.  The building’s architecture is contemporary and striking whilst still representing the history of the region incorporating recycled natural timbers reflecting the timber milling past of the town.

The building’s design was centered around maximum passive sustainable design resulting in 70% of ventilation from natural sources and due to high ambient light levels minimal lighting power usage.
